The One Village punja durry
is 100% cotton.
This weaving comes from the countryside close to the Avarali hills, along the borders of Haryana and Rajasthan.
The first process is preparing the yarns. The dyeing is from entirely naturally sourced ingredients (chemical free). Precise colours will vary.
Weaving is done on a flat frame that looks at first like an old fashioned bedframe. The warp is stretched from end to end. Our weavers use unbleached cotton for this.

|
|
The weaver then sits on a platform across the frame, moving the platform forward as she inserts and weaves into the warp each thread of the weft. The process means that short pieces of cotton can be inserted according to the requirements of the design, and in this way quite complex patterns can be constructed.
After inserting each piece of cotton weft, the thread is pulled tightly into place using this special tool, called a punja (Shown LEFT).

"I would like to say a huge thank you for my order which arrived very safely by courier today, direct delivery to my address, no queues at the post office.
The rug was beautifully packaged and I'm really surprised at how quickly it has arrived – only 4 days from UK to Greek island must be a record.
As for the rug: it's perfect.
I shall recommend your website to all that I can" – G B, Kefalonia, Greece
